The US has immunized 50% of the entire population, and nearly 60% of the eligible population aged 12 and above has been completely vaccinated.
The development of the Delta variety is both undesirable and predictable to a world that has grown tired of playing defense against SARS-CoV-2. Delta, also known as B.1.617.2, was originally discovered in India in December 2020. This specific variation expanded to over 98 nations throughout the world in a matter of months, becoming the dominant variant in more than a dozen of them, including India, Scotland, the United Kingdom, Israel, and the United States.
Delta is currently responsible for more than 83 percent of COVID-19 cases documented in the United States, and with just 48% of the US population completely vaccinated, circumstances are perfect for SARS-CoV-2 to continue to evolve and spread.
Delta is 40-60% more transmissible than Alpha and nearly twice as transmissible as the original Wuhan strain of SARS-CoV-2, according to data. Furthermore, individuals infected with the Delta version have considerably more viral particles in their airways. The viral loads in Delta infections were 1,000 times greater than those in infections produced by other variations, according to Chinese research. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers Delta to be the “fastest and fittest” variation yet, based on this evidence.
Delta's symptoms are a bit different than other strains, according to surveys performed in the United Kingdom, where Delta represents 90 percent of current COVID-19 cases, although this does not always indicate the associated symptoms are more severe. Fever, headache, sore throat, and runny nose are all frequent symptoms, although cough and loss of smell are unusual.
Delta has also been linked to more significant symptoms such as hearing loss, severe gastrointestinal problems, and blood clots that cause tissue death and gangrene, according to other investigations.
Some of the New Symptoms of The Delta Variant are:
Runny Nose
Headache
Nausea
Sore Throat
Diarrhea
Tired/ Unwell
As the virus continues to mutate and generate possible methods to evade the immune systems that its hosts have fought so hard and sacrificed so much to establish, humanity has its hands full.
Researchers are keeping a watch on a number of variations of interest, including Lambda, in addition to the variants of concern now being examined. Natural selection may be taking place when certain mutations (like K417N/T) become permanent in distinct viral lineages.
